La combinaison de fortes chaleurs et du manque d\u2019eau peut avoir de profondes r\u00e9percussions sur la biodiversit\u00e9 avec des risques de mortalit\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate. Les reptiles sont animaux \u00ab\u00a0ectothermes\u00a0\u00bb qui r\u00e9gulent leur temp\u00e9rature en s\u2019exposant plus ou moins aux sources de chaleur par un comportement qu\u2019on d\u00e9nomme la thermor\u00e9gulation. Une \u00e9tude accept\u00e9e dans la revue <em>Oecologia<\/em> d\u00e9montre pour la premi\u00e8re fois que ces organismes choisissent aussi activement les conditions d\u2019humidit\u00e9 de leur habitat par des comportements d\u2019hydror\u00e9gulation. Ce travail men\u00e9 au CNRS de Chiz\u00e9 dans le cadre du projet ANR Aquatherm r\u00e9v\u00e8le que ces comportements aident les serpents \u00e0 limiter les pertes hydriques et donc \u00e0 att\u00e9nuer le stress associ\u00e9 aux effets des \u00e9pisodes de s\u00e9cheresse.
