Jean-Francois Le Galliard – Senior Researcher Institute of Ecology and Environment, CNRS
Visiting Associate Professor at Biology Deparment, Ecole normale supérieure
Adjunct director of CEREEP-Ecotron IleDeFrance
I am a population ecologist and evolutionary biologist interested in understanding the diversity of life history and behavioral strategies that animals use to survive and reproduce in their changing environment. After a scholarship at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, i attended the master program of Evolutionary Biology and Ecology at the University of Paris 6. There, I did my PhD project under the supervision of Prof. Régis Ferrière and Dr. Jean Clobert. My thesis dealt with the evolution of social behaviors in spatially structured populations and involved both theoretical and experimental approaches. After my doctoral studies, I was granted a Marie-Curie Fellowship to work at the CEES in Oslo, Norway, in the research group of Prof. Nils Christian Stenseth. During two years, I studied the interplay between dispersal and population demography in metapopulations of small rodents using of a large scale experimental facility developed by Prof. Rolf Ims at Evenstad.
Since 2006, I am a permanent researcher at the CNRS, now affiliated to the UMR 7618 (iEES Paris) at Sorbonne University. My research projects are broadly interested in population and behavioral ecology using animal models, especially lizards. From 2010 to 2022, i acted like the science director of the CEREEP-Ecotron IleDeFrance field station. This is a unique place in France where we developed modern infrastructures dedicated to experimental ecology including the Ecotron IleDeFrance, Equipex PLANAQUA and other experimental platforms. I am now adjunct director of this research center and coordinator of the French Researc Infrastructure AnaEE France dedicated to experimental, ecology research.
